Janell Weaver, Special Education Advocate

“Advocacy is empathy, compassion and community at work.”- Janna Cachola

I am a non-attorney special education advocate and the mother of two children who qualify for special education services. For over ten years, I have advocated for my own children and for families across central Pennsylvania. I deeply understand the intense emotions that come with this advocacy. It was this lived experience that led me to serve others.

I earned my degree in Nursing from East Stroudsburg University and have worked for over 20 years as a registered nurse. Caring for others is in my nature.

I am a member of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates (COPAA) and have successfully completed their highly respected SEAT 1.0 and SEAT 2.0 training courses. Caring about the future of special education, I have participated in COPAA’s inaugural Change Makers Academy and the Education Voters of PA Public Education Champions program to prepare me to advocate beyond the IEP table.

I am an endurance athlete who has completed many marathons and triathlons, including multi-day events and two full IRONMAN events. I bring stamina, grit, and follow-through to my advocacy.

I don’t walk away when things get hard. In other words, I don't know how to quit.

My priorities are first to advocate for the learner, knowing that all students can thrive when given the right support; second to support and coach the family, ensuring they are knowledgeable of their rights; and third to improve the relationship between the family and the school, believing that a positive relationship is vital. I accomplish all this through respectful, proactive, transparent, and thorough communication and by staying curious about the needs and priorities of everyone at the table.

I am skilled in advocacy, leadership, communication, networking, and event organization. I am extremely detail-oriented and will work closely alongside you, proactively handling tasks and supporting you at every step as you navigate the special education process. I will work tirelessly for your family and look forward to a day when my services are no longer necessary.

I am NOT an attorney and cannot provide legal advice.
