Welcome to the place where I’ll write my letters to you! There is so much I want to share- stories, experience, lessons, history, and hope. After all, this is my new website, my new work, and my new blog, so I am excited to tell you everything! But what should I share in my first letter to you, Dear Reader?
As an introduction to me, maybe I should write about the reasons I’m here, what I hope to do exactly, how I can help, or tidbits about me.
As an introduction to the main topic, maybe I should write about the history of IDEA (it's fascinating!) or give a brief lesson on an important piece of IEPs.
But as I sit here imagining all the possibilities, my mind begins to fill with doubt. Do I even belong here in this space? Who am I to think I have anything to offer you? Fear is a dark place. I wonder if fear is something we have in common, Dear Reader. Could it be that you too are faced with fear, doubt, or insecurity in one or more areas of your life?
Pondering this possibility, that maybe you are sitting in darkness paralyzed by overwhelm or doubt, how could I let my own fear stop me from sharing the light I know I have? I have years of experience working through challenges in the IEP process. I have compassion for the team of people sitting around the IEP table. And I have loads of empathy for you, Dear Reader, because if you’re here, it's likely you are in need of support.
So what I want to share in my first letter to you, Dear Reader, is light. There will be plenty of time for stories, experience, lessons, history, and introductions. But hope and light cannot wait.

P.S. If you are new to special education, IEP is an acronym for Individualized Education Plan or Program. Fifteen percent of students in the US qualify for special education services. That number is over 20% in my home state of Pennsylvania.*

You've always been the greatest at this. I'm beyond proud of you for doing all the hard things with grace and love (as per usual!). So many people will be blessed by you and your gift.
